ShopperMX Glossary of Key Terms

A

Arranagement AI  An additional ShopperMX product that assists with automated arrangement and optimization of retail layouts.

Assets  All content used in ShopperMX, including stores, planograms, products, signage, and displays.

Augmented Reality (AR)  Technology that overlays digital content onto real-world environments, used in SMX GO to visualize virtual retail elements in physical spaces.

C

Categories  Product segments within a store (e.g., the Breakfast Cereal Category, the Beverage Category).

Cells  In research methodology, cells represent different test conditions for comparison. For example, Cell 1 might show a current planogram while Cell 2 shows a proposed new planogram to determine which performs better.

Completes  The number of completed surveys by respondents in a research project.

CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods)  Products that are sold quickly and at relatively low cost, typically packaged for retail sale (e.g., food, beverages, toiletries, cleaning products).

D

Digital Twin  A virtual replica of a physical retail store or environment.

Display  A marketing fixture created and visualized in ShopperMX using standard or custom display templates.

DIY Video  Self-created video content within ShopperMX used for presentations and demonstrations.

Drop Point  The location in a virtual environment where participants or respondents begin their shopping exercise, typically placed at the end of an aisle or within an aisle.

E

End Cap  A display area at the end of an aisle in a retail store, often used for promotional or featured products.

Environment  A virtual store or digital twin used within ShopperMX.

Environment Build  The process of creating a digital virtual store or twin.

G

GTIN (Global Trade Identification Number)  A unique identifier for trade items, similar to UPC and SKU, used globally for product identification.

I

Image Procurement  The process of obtaining product images for digital modeling, ranging from client-provided images to full-service procurement.

M

Media Collection  A central repository within ShopperMX where all captured content is automatically saved, including recordings, screenshots, user videos, photos, and documents.

Modeling/Modelling  The creation of digital assets such as products/SKUs, signage, or displays in 3D to represent their real-life versions.

P

Pinboard  A visual collection of media (videos, photos, PDFs, PowerPoints) that can be placed within a virtual store environment for presentations.

Planogram (POG)  A visual diagram or layout that shows how and where products should be placed on retail shelves or displays to optimize sales and visual appeal.

POG  Abbreviation for planogram.

Product Library  A database of digitally modeled products and SKUs produced by InContext Solutions.

Project  A container or folder that houses all assets created, copied, or imported in ShopperMX, including stores, planograms, products, signage, and displays.

Project Admin  A user access level with full permissions to create and edit all assets and manage project access.

Project Debriefs  Meetings held to review client feedback and discuss what worked well or presented challenges during a project, with a focus on future improvements.

PSA File  The industry-standard planogram file type accepted by ShopperMX. PSA files contain detailed information about product positions, fixtures, shelves, and other merchandising elements.

R

Regular User  A user access level with full permissions to create and edit all assets within a project.

S

Signage  Visual marketing materials created in ShopperMX using .jpg or .png image files, placed in planograms, displays, or stores.

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)  A unique identifier used by retailers and manufacturers to track individual products and inventory.

2D SKUs  Product models showing front facing only.

2.5D SKUs  Product models showing front and back facings only.

3D SKUs  Product models showing all six facings (complete 360-degree representation).

SMX  Abbreviation for ShopperMX.

SMX GO  InContext's mobile app that allows users to visualize virtual content created in ShopperMX within real-world environments using augmented reality. Used for planning, selling, and implementing retail displays and fixtures.

SnapShelf 3D  InContext's image recognition solution that transforms shelf photos into editable 3D planograms, enabling real-time compliance detection, audits, resets, and competitive analysis.

Store Concept  A virtual retail environment licensed to users, used for testing and visualization of retail layouts and merchandising strategies.

Study  A research or test-and-learn experiment or project conducted using ShopperMX virtual environments.

T

Tour  A guided walkthrough or presentation within a ShopperMX virtual store environment, often recorded for stakeholder review.  

U

UPC (Universal Product Code)  A barcode symbology used for tracking trade items in stores, synonymous with GTIN and SKU for product identification purposes.  

V

VAA - Visual Attention Analysis  A reporting tool within ShopperMX that analyzes screenshots to determine visual attention and engagement patterns.

View Only  A restricted user access level that allows users to view existing assets but not create or edit them.

Virtual Store Templates  Pre-built 3D store environments available and licensed to ShopperMX users.
